Anthony's Melodic Triumph

On this day two years ago, Anthony’s world turned upside down when he suddenly experienced the scariest moment of his life: he went into acute liver failure. Anthony went from a passionate saxophone player to a patient in critical condition waiting for a liver transplant in our Egleston PICU.
After he received his liver transplant, his long road to recovery began. During his stay in the PICU, he developed neuropathy, causing damage to the peripheral nerves. His care team helped him regain strength and mobility in this right hand and left leg. He had to relearn how to complete everyday tasks, like playing the saxophone. Thanks to encouragement from his family, he started attending band practices and eventually began playing with his school band again.
In April, Anthony returned to Children's to perform in a special ceremony in the Egleston Gardens to thank our organ donor families.
