11-year-old Charlotte fought the odds against progressive familial intrahepatic cholestasis and is celebrating more than a year post-transplant by doing the things she loves most—playing basketball, traveling with family and spending lots of time with friends.

At only 9 months old, Charlotte was diagnosed with PFIC2, a rare condition that prevents children from draining bile from the liver. She has been a patient of Dr. Romero for almost 10 years, facing a rollercoaster of challenges that ended up requiring her to be placed on the transplant list.

Last February, Charlotte underwent a liver transplant, and thanks to her donor and care team, she is getting ready to start middle school in the fall.
