Kristen Welcomes Luca With Open Arms

After experiencing fertility issues, Kristen and her husband started looking into adoption. Their journey started with hope and excitement, but they quickly realized it was much more difficult than they ever could have imagined. During their adoption process, Kristen interviewed for her dream job as a pediatric nurse at Children’s where she learned all about our adoption benefits—making her decision to come work here a no-brainer.
Despite the many ups and downs and countless no’s throughout their adoption journey, it all led to the biggest yes: their son, Luca. Kristen’s skills and knowledge as a nurse came into play when her son was born with some complications. She immediately stepped in to help her newborn son and, in that moment, it made so much sense that she was his mom.
Since becoming a mom a few months ago, Kristen said that her perspective as a nurse has totally changed. She just returned to work from adoption leave, and while she misses her son, she is thankful to have a work family to welcome her back with open arms.
