Last 2022 Christmas is extra special for Mallory as she celebrates her 8th heart anniversary.
At ten days old, Mallory's parents brought her to Children's after learning she contracted a virus that caused her to have an enlarged heart. For the next two years, routine doctors' visits and medications became Mallory's new normal. When it became apparent that her heart wasn't improving, Mallory was put on the transplant list.
On December 7 at 2:00 am, Mallory's parents received the
call that the doctors found a match. After the transplant, her parents wanted to do something special to honor the donor family. With Mallory's transplant taking place so close to the holidays, they came up with the idea of having a special tree for her donor—which has now become their favorite Christmas tradition. Each year, on the anniversary of her transplant, Mallory adds a new heart-shaped ornament to her donor tree along with heart ornaments from years prior. It's her family's way of giving back and honoring her donor.Children's Healthcare of Atlanta work together to provide the best possible care to the kids we serve. We also take care of each other.
