Miracle Onyx - A Story of Courage and Survival.
Faith is no stranger to Children’s. As a child, she spent time here when she was diagnosed with Kawasaki disease, a severe illness that can affect the heart. She was eternally grateful to her care team for saving her life, but that appreciation grew when her own child ended up at our hospital.
Onyx was born at just 32 weeks because Faith was experiencing eclampsia—seizures during pregnancy. Despite a traumatic delivery, both Faith and Onyx survived. However, Onyx was born with a bowel obstruction. The day after he was born, he was rushed by ambulance from Canton, GA to our Scottish Rite hospital. This is where his 68-day NICU journey began.
Two surgeries, a blood transfusion and countless long nights later, Onyx is now back home and healthy. Their mother-son bond is stronger than ever, having both spent so much time at Children’s.
Children's Healthcare of Atlanta work together to provide the best possible care to the kids we serve. We also take care of each other. Children’s offers a variety of resources and programs to support employees professionally and personally, which is one of the many reasons we have been recognized as a Fortune 100 Best Place to Work, a Best Place for Working Mothers, and as a top employer for diversity and millennials.
